5/16/2015-The earthquake triggered several landslides in the Himalayan region leaving the major highways blocked. Our destination was Bamtibhandar, Ramechhap. It takes a good 14 hours of driving from Kathmandu to here. We were warned that the roads may not be reliable way to travel such long route. We might get stuck on the road. Thus, our team along with volunteer team from Nepal navigated our way to Bamtibhandar, Ramechhap via Helicopter. However, we sent the relief supplies in the truck. It was around 4:30 pm local time when we arrived at Bamtibhandar. White layers of foggy clouds were gliding across the whole village. The damaged structures of houses and dispersed stones and muds faded behind the background. The breeze of brisk air embraced our embodiment. In any case, Bamti bhandar is a pleasant place to be in. The beautiful Everest sits across the village accompanied with tall, green mountains encircling Bamtibhandar. We looked around. There were virtually no standing houses left behind. All of the houses were structurally damaged. As we reached, As soon as we got there, we were greeted by local volunteers and villagers who were ready to receive supplies. Beforehand, we had managed to build a team of local volunteers. They helped us compile the list of villagers’ name. That way, we do not leave any villagers out. And, immediately we commenced on distributions.
All of the villagers were gathered together. We gave away 350 Tarps, 350 Blankets, and 350 Mattresses. At the end, I talked to few villagers. They displayed happy temperament, cheerful face, and composed soul. They are determined to build back their village again. But for now, during our one week of stay in Bamtibhandar, we hope to help them build the temporary shelter and provide them with more foods.
