5/21/2015-Few blocks away from Hattibahadur’s family, we met Mitthu’s family. Mitthu was a middle aged man who was having to take care of a wife and 3 children: one teenager and 2 are under 10 years old. He spends his most of the time in his farm in order to bring food for the family. Few years ago, his wife suffered Cataract on her eye causing her eye sight to be diminished. Now, she can see very poorly from one side of her eye. They had no money to travel and treat her eyesight. The most household chores are now left to the teenager daughter. A day of household chore includes the following but is no way only limited to it : bringing the water from the water-source, collect the wood, ignite the fire, cook food, feed the family of 5, wash the dishes, feed the cattle, and take care of them. As the mother’s eyesight was more diminished, 2 more children had to be involved in the household chores helping their older sister. It took huge toll on their school. As a result, all 3 kids were out of school.
As a little help, we gave Mitthu’s NRs. 4,000 as a travel fee to go to Kathmandu city and treat his wife’s cataract. We also set up a tent for Mitthu’s family. We have also committed NRs. 10,000 for Mitthu’s family for next year, only if he sends his 3 children to school by next year.
