Opened to the public in 1992, the Dallas World Aquarium has been in the Downtown Dallas area for nearly 30 years. Along with providing animal and plant lovers an opportunity to see wildlife up close, the aquarium offers field trips and educational sessions for children and adults.
With three levels, the aquarium’s expansive rainforest is your first stop once you make your way inside. You’ll start on the third floor – the canopy level – and see birds in free flight, sleepy sloths and Tamarin and Saki monkeys. Once on the first level, you can’t miss Ayurami, an endangered Antillean manatee. Fun fact: Ayurami (and her entire species) have nails on their flippers!
Complete with a cenote, Mundo Maya pays tribute to one of the most important ecosystems in the world. See lizards, snakes and leaf-nosed bats along with stingrays, giant groupers and other marine creatures in the first level of this exhibit. The second level is home to Scarlet macaws, various species of hummingbirds and pelicans.
Head outdoors to the South Africa exhibit, home to a family of penguins and a seasonal Madagascar exhibit. Look closely to see colorful species of frogs, leaf-tailed geckos and chameleons.
The Dallas World Aquarium is open daily (except Thanksgiving and Christmas Day) starting at 8:30 a.m. Admission starts at $18.95 for children ages three to 12 and $26.95 for adults. With a central location in Downtown Dallas, finding the aquarium is easy! Parking is available in two lots right next to the aquarium; street parking is also available in the area. Along with three restaurants on-site, the aquarium also has a bookstore and gift shop.
