Dallas Spring Break with Teenagers
What to do in Dallas when you have teenage children.
For teenagers, Spring Break is easily one of the best weeks of the year. It’s the perfect opportunity to unwind, recharge and have a new adventure or two. For parents, however, it can be stressful as you struggle to come up with ideas of what to do every day for an entire week. Luckily, we’ve got the perfect plan to get you from Monday to Friday this Spring Break in Dallas.
Day 1 – Monday in West End
It’s time for animal adventure that’s equal parts weird and cuddly. The Dallas World Aquarium
is filled with exotic marine life from the farthest corners of the seven seas. But fish aren’t the only amazing animals waiting to be discovered. Manatees, giant anteaters, three-toed sloths, colorful tree frogs and mischievous tamarins are sure to give you a reason to be excited about what’s around the next corner.
You can’t trust everything you see, and that’s certainly the case at the Museum of Illusions. This epic collection of mind-boggling exhibits is designed to trick your sense of reality. Perfect for Instagram-worthy pic, the museum lets you and your teens start down a never-ending abyss, lose your sense of up and down and see the real you in a rainbow of colors.
If there’s one certainty in life, it’s that tacos are always a good idea. Not only is Tejas Taco Factory one of the best places in Dallas for delicious street tacos, but they’re also one of the fastest. From the 14-Hour Tejas Brisket taco to the Citrus Spicy Salmon taco, every bite is a culinary adventure.
Day 2 – Tuesday in the Arts District
Let’s start Tuesday off right with a good old-fashioned scavenger hunt. The Arts District Heist challenges you and your kids to explore sculptures, murals and historical sites while tracking a notorious thief! It’s a great way to learn more about the city and see breathtaking architecture while solving fun brain teasers and puzzles.
The Dallas Museum of Art is home to art that spans centuries of human history. From ancient Mesoamerican sculptures that explore our origins to modern art that tickles your brain, the DMA offers a window into the soul of humanity from every period and corner of the globe.
Outside the museum, you’ll find plenty of lunch options at Food Truck Lane in Klyde Warren Park. With diverse options, even your pickiest teenagers will find something they like.
Day 3 – Wednesday in Far North Dallas
Suit up and get ready to test your digital reflexes. Zero Latency DFW
bills itself as the world’s greatest free-roam virtual reality experience, and who are we to argue? Loaded up with the latest wireless VR technology, you can team up and fight for survival or rule the battlefield as you destroy your teenagers in this amazing immersive virtual world.
Tone it down a notch and go a little old-school with ice skating at the Galleria. Skate as long as you like, and show your kids what being cool really means.
Wrap up the day with burgers from Hopdoddy Burger Bar. While you can certainly get a great burger or chicken sandwich at Hopdoddy, the best part is you can trick your teens into eating “healthy” with the Hot Honey Sage Brussels or Buffalo Brussels. It’s a win-win for you and them.
Day 4 – Thursday in Downtown Dallas
Experience art in a whole new way with the awe-inspiring Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit. With 500,000 cubic feet of projections, 60,600 frames of video and 90 million pixels, the exhibit surrounds you in the breathtaking beauty of the master painter. You’ll never experience Starry Night like this.
Witness one of the most magnificent views in all of Texas. At 470 feet tall, Reunion Tower
is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. But the view from inside the ball is even better! If you think the breathtaking 360-degree views of Downtown Dallas and the surrounding neighborhoods are impressive, wait until you watch the sunset.
For dinner, grab a bite at Café Herrera, an upscale Mexican restaurant that’s vibrant and authentic. Serving traditional dishes alongside contemporary favorites, Café Herrera is family owned and a great way to end the day.
Day 5 – Friday in Fair Park
We saved the best for last. Rainbow Vomit. Those two simple words will have your teenagers ready to go in about 2.3 seconds. Rainbow Vomit is a 2600-square-foot immersive art experience that transports you into a fantasy of flight. Combining 10000 LEDs, 2000 Balloons, 300 pounds of cotton, 4 miles of ribbon, and a life-sized unicorn, Rainbow Vomit is something you must see to believe.
Take your tastebuds on a journey around the world with delicious culinary options at the Dallas Farmers Market. Italian. Indian. Vietnamese. Thai. They even have shawarma and sushi! It’s everything you’ve always wanted to try but have never had the chance.
And finally, wrap up your week with a Broadway musical. Running March 15 through April 2, Moulin Rouge! The Musical is live at Music Hall at Fair Park. Featuring all the music you love from the smash hit movie, it’s a beautiful world of Bohemian splendor and romance.
