How to Spend Memorial Weekend 2021 in Dallas
Five ways to enjoy the holiday weekend.
Memorial Weekend is traditionally a time for friends and family to gather for relaxation. It's also the unofficial start of the summer season and we're so ready to enjoy longer days, warmers temps and plenty of sun heading into June. While some restrictions are still in place, there's still plenty of ways to celebrate the Memorial Day holiday.
Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens
The Dallas Arboretum and Gardens, located on the shores of White Rock Lake, is a perennial favorite of locals and visitors alike. There are 66 acres to explore that include many beautiful and unique gardens, like A Woman's Garden with an infinity pool and views of the lake, and the McCasland Sunken Garden.
Events over the Memorial Weekend include cooking demos, food and drink specials, concerts, and the very popular bird flight demo Window To The Wild.
Currently, admission to the Arboretum must be pre-purchased along with a parking pass. The gardens are open at 50 percent capacity and face coverings are required. Active and retired military, as well as First Responders, will receive free admission all weekend.
Dallas Symphony Orchestra Concert at Flag Pole Hill
The DSO's annual summer concert series is back again this Memorial Weekend! Pack a picnic while you enjoy patriotic tunes and a wonderful fireworks display for a fun family-friendly night out. The concert is May 31 and is free to attend.
Klyde Warren Park
Any time is a great time to visit Klyde Warren Park, the city's unique deck park built over a freeway. Five acres provide ample space to picnic, fountains for splashing about, a dog park, a children's park, and stages for live entertainment. Check their website for special events happening throughout the weekend, and don't forget to dine at the food trucks!
The George W. Bush Presidential Library
After serving for eight years as president of the U.S., George W. Bush turned his hand to painting. His latest portraits are currently on exhibition at the George W. Bush Presidential Library through Jan. 3, 2022. The exhibition and a new book entitled Out of Many, One: Portraits of America's Immigrants, features the stories of immigrants proud to become U.S. citizens.
All of the portraits are painted by the President and provide an in-depth look at the many issues surrounding immigration today. In addition to enhancing conversation around this topic, the library provides a nice escape from the Texas heat.
Mextour at AT&T Stadium
The Mexican National Soccer Team returns to the U.S. for the 2021 opening match against Iceland. This is a preparation game for the Concacaf Nations Finals and the best of the best will be on the field. The game is May 29 at AT&T Stadium. Covid-19 protocols will be enforced.
