What to do for Mother's Day in Dallas

Mark your calendars for Mother's Day on May 12. Moms have had a tough year of balancing virtual learning, work, and pandemic fatigue, all while keeping the family in good spirits. If there were ever a year to shower her with all the love and attention she deserves, it is this year. Dallas is blessed with countless restaurants to take Mom to for brunch, but we rounded up some other activities to pair with an afternoon of dining.
Run (or walk)
Have an active mom who likes to start the day with a brisk run? If so, join the Aaron Family Jewish Community Center of Dallas on Mother's Day morning for their annual Bagel Run. Run, jog or walk through the scenic Hillcrest neighborhood in a timed 10k, 5k or Kids K run. A virtual option is also available for those who feel more comfortable running without a group. The family-friendly activity starts at 7:00 am.
Stop by Shug's Bagels after the race to replace all those carbs you just burned off. The uber-popular shop sells some of the best Bagel & Lox, cream cheese and bagel sandwiches in town. The Sunday morning line for bagels usually stretches down the block, so make sure you have some post-race snacks handy to hold you off until you get that piping-hot bagel.
Let your mom pick out her own gift
Did you wait until the last minute to buy your mom a Mother's Day present? If so, bring her to the Dallas Farmers Market on Sunday to let her pick out a gift for herself. You’ll enjoy the convenience of the Harvest Shops, a fun, curated ensemble of restaurants and stores including the BBNCO Dog Boutique, Eden Hill Vineyard tasting room, Folklore & Tradition Artisan Boutique, Ka-Tip Thai Street Food, K.A. Collective women’s clothing and so many more. She will also enjoy the Market Shops that are open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. which include a food hall and artisanal vendor market containing four anchor restaurants, a mixture of local specialty foods, artisanal food vendors, and seating areas both inside and out where you can grab a bite to eat or enjoy a cup of coffee while taking in a view of the Dallas skyline.
Make your own terrarium
If your mom is too picky to buy someone else's boho home accessories, bring her to Jade and Clover and let her make her own. This boutique gift shop sells plants, home decor, gifts, and jewelry. It also has a DIY terrarium shop for customers to make their own indoor gardening containers. Think Build-A-Bear, but with plants. Start by picking your plants, planter, sand and rocks, put it all together and viola – you have your own customized terrarium. After working up an appetite, take Mom over to Vidorra in Deep Ellum for a brunch full of tacos and mimosas. Enjoy a green chili eggs benedict, cinnamon churro toast, or a Mexican egg casserole with chorizo called cazuela de brunch on the rooftop patio that overlooks the Dallas skyline.
Love you a brunch
What better way to celebrate than by treating your mom to a delicious brunch in Dallas? With so many fantastic options available, you're sure to find the perfect spot to show your appreciation.The Rustic in Uptown Dallas is known for its brunch featuring classics like chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy, and bottomless mimosas and also has a Mother's Day pop-up market this year. If your mom has a sweet tooth, head to Village Baking Co., Val's Cheesecakes or CocoAndré. Fuel up for a day of pampering with a Mother’s Day brunch at Thompson Dallas’ Nine at The National. From 10:30 am to 2:30 pm on May 14, enjoy live jazz and stunning floral displays while indulging in hand-picked Mother’s Day specials for an unforgettable meal with Mom. For a more upscale experience for dinner, enchant your mom with an evening in the clouds this Mother’s Day at Monarch on May 14 from 3 to 9 p.m.
Go on a picnic
If you do not want to make reservations and the weather is nice, pick up a basket of gourmet food at EatZi's, Olmo Market or Foxtrot and then head to your favorite park, spread out a blanket and have a Mother's Day picnic.
