Dallas-Based Tequilas
Celebrate National Tequila Day with a local twist
As the resident tequila lover on the team, no one had to twist my arm to research local tequila companies in honor of National Tequila Day. It's only fitting, for several reasons: my parents, both Mexican immigrants, have proudly displayed bottles of the best ones in their home for the majority of my life, so I'm quite familiar with the Jalisco-bred spirit, and it's also my go-to cocktail (ranch water with Tajin, please.) On top of that, it's a big part of our jobs in these parts, thanks to the Margarita Mile and its tasty cocktails.
Tequila will always belong to Mexico – after all, it's not tequila if it's made outside of Jalisco. So while the production of these remains south of the border, their company headquarters are local and for that, we tip our hats to them.
Socorro
Do it for the kids! Aptly named ("socorro" in Spanish can translate to "help"), the Dallas-based company does just that: for every case of Soccoro tequila sold, a case of water is donated to a Mexican orphanage. The brand has three offerings: Blanco, Reposado and Añejo.
Flecha Azul
The recently launched brand was co-founded by Mexican golfer Abraham Ancer and proudly sits on a shortlist of Mexican-owned tequila brands. (While most tequila brands originate in its native country, they've been bought out by multinational operators.) Use the store locator map on its website to find several Dallas retailers that carry the brand, with five variations on its lineup.
Piña Loca
pinalocaltequila.com
Tequila with a pineapple twist, thanks to an added step in the production process that blends concentrated pineapple honey with Eastern Jalisco tequila. Find it locally using this store locator, or check it out next time you're at the Tipsy Alchemist in Uptown. The bar's Loca Rita, featured on the Margarita Mile, features Piña Loca Tequila along with nitrogen cilantro and a jalapeño reduction.
